indai want facebook, google to monitor user content
the indian government wants operators of social networks, including facebook and google ,to start monitoring user content and remove any offensive material that is hateful, threatening ,incites violence or contains nudity. india telecom minister ,kapil sibal recently met officials of the internet companies ,including yahoo and microsoft, asking them to set up a monitoring mechanism.
talking to reporters in september to remove offensive image and statements which they didn't adhere to
the minister also denied a new york times report which said that the government wants to "censor" user content "thse is far from the truth .if someone doesn't want to remove this kind of incendiary material then the government has todo something about it," said sibal
while facebook agrees ,google india took an altogether different stance ,with its history of liberal principles.
"we work really hard to make sure that people have as much access to information as much access to information as possible , while also following the law. this means that when content is illegal,we abide by local law and take it down .when content is legal but controversial we don't remove it because people's differing views should be respected, so long as long as they are legal."
